This holiday, I’m determined to have my presents knit by Christmas. The universe seems to have different plans. *sigh*

When I asked my mom over the summer what she wanted for Christmas, she said “nothing”. That doesn’t help me. Maybe I should have listened to her. The problems I’ve had working on these socks is monumental. I can’t believe I haven’t given up yet.

This is what I bought      It’s Knit Picks Stroll Sport Sock yarn in Marti Gras. It came in October some time and has been sitting in little plastic baggies until I was ready to cast on. That didn’t last long as I think I cast on that weekend. First while casting on, (2@a time) I cast on one inside out. Second try; It turns out that I made them too  big and I had screwed up on the cables. So I frogged it and started over. I hate frogging, but these are for my mom so she can have warm feet on the days she has playground duty, or just keep her feet warm in the house (my parents house tends to be a bit on the cold side).

So I got started on the third try. I was booking along with the toe increases (I knit toe-up) and then my needles break (order to be done by christmas I needed to knit 2 at a time so I made the decision to not use my DPNs). My 47in cord broke. I thought I might be able to fix it, so I super glued it and used clear nail polish to smooth out the sanded areas. I think I got through a round then set it aside as I had another project I was working on.

So there I am, knitting and chilling watching some TV and I get up to get something to drink and I see a string stretching from my dinning room to my bedroom. Uh, oh. This can’t be good. The kitten….(pictured below)

She just looks innocent.

Don't let her innocence fool you, she's a yarn killer!

had decided that she would play with the contents of my knitting bag which just happened to be two balls of the above mentioned yarn. She had turned it into a rats nest. ARGH!

So I forged ahead. I tried to knit another round when LOW and BEHOLD! my needles break AGAIN!

I put the socks aside and vow to myself to invest in a NICE pair of circs. It’s vital to the completion of my Christmas knitting. I head down to the not-so-local-to-me-but-super-helpful LYS to pick up some Addi Circs. I completely convinced myself that I needed 40s instead of 47s. I was wrong. WAY too short….well, 7 inches too short. Did you know that it’s illegal to return knitting needles in this state? WTH? I walked out with my correct size needles anyway and headed home….after a quick stop to buy some Pattons Classic which was on sale at Michael’s and will soon be a present for my Dad.

I spent the afternoon winding and untangling purple yarn and getting my socks back on circs. I have pictures of all of this but we had a computer melt down this week and the card reader for the camera is not connected and since this is the Boy’s area, I’m not touching anything I’m not completely sure of.

Hopefully the saga of those socks are done…

BUT THEN…. the Yarn Killer (see pictured above) got a hold of my already knit socks which were blocking and pulled out this long loop that took me an hour and a half to re-incorporate back into the sock! ARGH!

Hope you are having better luck with your holiday knitting!

A little something like this…..

I got a SOCK PICTURE! I think this is my initiation into the knitting realm of coolness!

Good Morning! It’s 5:30am and I’m WIDE awake. I’ve checked Ravelry, my phone, and facebook. I need to make some coffee and some breakfast but the cereal situation here is a bit…. sparse. I should be making my lunch…

Well, Things here have been busy busy busy. Too many projects too little time.  I have my first art fair coming up in two weeks. I have this weekend and all next week to work on stuff. I’m freaking out a little because I don’t know how well my stuff will sell. Please come buy my stuff! 🙂 I’m making these…

Chillin' with my Gnomie.

This guy still has some little detail work that needs to be added.  Isn’t he cute?

I’ve been waiting patiently for my flat-rate swap box to arrive. I’ve learned that the earlier you send your package, the more the anticipation will get to you. At least for me, I’m not very good at patience if I know that I get a present. In fact, it just about drives me mad thinking about it. I have a new swap that I’ve joined, Grimm’s Fairy Tales. I’m making these adorable socks…I’ll show you pictures when I’m finished with them. They look awesome so far, I hope I can get the other sock to look as awesome. This will be the second pair that I’ve done. I’m not crazy about the bamboo needles that I’m working with. I’ve decided that for my birthday…I get a $10 coupon for my birthday from my LYS….I’m going to get a pair of Blackthorns. I’m super excited. Good thing the B-day is next month! 🙂

I’m going to make some coffee…

I’m not very good at keeping secrets, so this should be interesting. I’ve resisted the urge to “friend”  my swapee and resisted the urge to “favorite” her stuff or comment on her blog for fear of giving away the surprise.

For those of you who AREN’T members of Ravelry (a website for people of the fiber persuasion) a swap is where you are matched up with an un-suspecting member of the community to trade home-made and non-homemade goodies with. I spent a lot of time hearing about them and never understood what they were until I saw one on my “LOST” forum. I saw all the awesome things that they were making for other “LOST” forum members and felt that it would definitely be something that I would be interested in. I get to cyber-stalk my spoilee to find out all her favorite things and then I get to shop for her. I get the privilege of filling a medium size USPS box of goodies. I can’t think of anything more fun. I keep forgetting that at the end of this that I will be spoiled too! I’m so excited to start crafting personalized goodies! I can see that this is going to be an addicting hobby.

Our computer has been acting up lately and needed to be re-built. The boy is good like that. It’s up and running and soon we’ll have the software downloaded so I can post more pictures. I have some good ones I can’t wait to share.

I’m looking for a sewing machine. I’ve been doing all these crafty things lately and now I think I want to start sewing. Nothing like adding another skill to my arsenal. I’ve got the kitchen down, knitting is under control, I feel the need to start something new.

I’ve been reading Posey Gets Cozy and Little Cotton Rabbits and I miss my country living.  I miss going out in the middle of a storm to do chores and get wood for the stove. Money is tight right now and I figure that in the long run, a sewing machine will help take care of things around here like curtains and maybe some summer clothes for myself.

I’ve got a couple of exciting things happening in the next week. A family that I use to baby-sit for in college is coming to town for a day trip this week. I want to give them a little Easter gift. The only thing I can think of to do is make little Easter Egg pins from the Roving that I bought back in the fall. It’s not really Easter Egg colors, but I’m hoping that it will work for the girls. I’ll need something different for the boys.

My sister is turning 16 on Saturday. She’s coming down to visit for her spring break. I’m super excited. I have a bunch of stuff planned for us. I have to do a crap load of things before next Tuesday. Grocery shopping is a huge one. It’s tricky because I have signed up to bring dishes for our Easter Breakfast at church. Saturday will be a busy day for me. I’ll have to get up SUPER early on Sunday too. Ugh… Good thing I work at a great company and am able to take days off next week for my sister’s visit!

This economy thing sucks. So, I want a sewing machine and NOW the XBOX isn’t working. 😦 This is the downside to buying things on Craigslist. Now that the XBOX isn’t working… it doesn’t read discs…we can’t send it in to get fixed. So, now he is looking for a new XBOX and I’m looking at sewing machines.

I have possibly made the most perfect loaves of bread I’ve ever seen in my family! They are beautiful! My apartment smells like grandma’s kitchen and I can’t wait for them to cool a bit so we can eat them!

I’ve also decided to start selling my knitting. I have a few things that I have designed myself and plan on putting them up for sale in the near future. I’ve been commissioned to make a couple of kid hats that resemble the Yo Gabba Gabba characters. I received the yarn yesterday and will cast on tomorrow! I’m super excited and I’m planning on making a bunch of them seeing as though I know a lot of people with kids. 🙂 Wish me luck!

Live Long and Prosper!

I completed a bunch of knitting projects yesterday. Like this….

Which is actually a lace scarf that looks like this….

Can you see the lace pattern? I’m so proud of this. This is my own design …. kinda. I took the stitch from a book but made it into the amazing cowl above. I’m thinking about making a slouch hat in a stitch from that book.

This is my own idea…

It’s actually needle felted! The cowl above and this pin will be shipped to my grandmother.

Today is bread making day! I found a bread recipe on this blog that I would like to try to make today. I’m hoping that my wheat flour will suffice when her recipe calls for wheat pastry flour. I’m not sure what the difference is. I’m still new to this bread making thing. My starter, “Carl”, is out and warming up to room temperature and should be ready to use by the time I get home. 🙂 So, by the end of the day I hope to have three loaves of bread made and my green lace scarf started…without mistakes. This is my lace….

Swift made by Dad, one of a kind Lorna's Laces lace

Please pay no attention to the cat toy mess in the background! This lace took me an HOUR to wind! My hand kept cramping and then I would drop the ball… LOL no pun intended. This is MINE! ALLLLLL MINE! 🙂 I’m excited to get started. I had a rough go of it yesterday so I frogged it and I’ll try fresh today!
